The Holt Scarecrow Trail is an annual event that takes place every August in the village of Holt, Wiltshire.
Visitors can follow a trail of imaginative scarecrows designed and created by local residents displayed throughout the village alongside refreshments hosted by community groups, the village churches, pubs and café. Come along and explore the village of Holt and enjoy the creativity of the community.
This year, Holt will become STORY TOWN, with the trail being based on Literature.
Scarecrows will represent the A, B, C’s of Story Town - Authors, Book Titles or Characters from famous works.
Profits from our approved trail outlets are reinvested in the local community and our chosen charities.

CHILDREN’S TRAIL
In 2026, the Children’s Trail will once again run alongside the Main Trail.
This years theme will be based on the storybook "The Scarecrows Wedding" by Julia Donaldson.
There will be pictures of Julia Donaldson characters dotted around the village, along with some extra little challenges!
This trail runs separate to the Main Trail with its own trail sheet. Families can take part in the Children’s Trail and the Main Trail at the same time if you choose to do so. Those seeking added adventure can also enjoy our extra challenge to find golden tickets kindly designed by 1st Holt Brownies alongside some of the “Main Trail” scarecrows.
Somewhere on each of these scarecrows there will be a golden ticket. How many can you find?

The Main Trail Book and Children’s Trail Sheet will be on sale from Monday 24th August at Holt Premier Superstore (BA14 6QH) and Wild Herb at The Glove Factory Studios (BA14 6RL).
Participants will also be able to buy the trail guides next to the barbecue stand at the Village Hall (BA14 6QH) on Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th from 11:30am - 1:30pm (if the weather allows!).

If you are arriving in Holt by car, free parking is available in any one of the 2 Glove Factory Studios car parks found on The Midlands, BA14 6RL. Please follow signs with our mascot Elliott on, and adhere to directions from our volunteer car park attendants.
There are also plenty of residential streets to park for short periods. Please ensure you park respectfully, leaving driveways and pavements clear for access.
